Sharing for Change
For 25 years Youth In Care Canada has provided opportunities to our membership to heal from their experiences and to reach their individual potential through a variety of initiatives. Examples of this work can be observed in projects that train and support our membership to share their stories in healthy and strategic ways. Youth In Care Canada offers a variety of workshops for members.
Strategic Sharing
We believe our members have powerful and authentic stories. These stories, when shared strategically, can influence change in child welfare and inspire those in and from care. Sharing strategically means to share safely and with purpose.

Postcard Project: Explore and Share the Culture of Care
As the youth and alumni movement has grown and gained momentum, we have discovered that regardless of age, race, ethnicity, geography, education, occupation, or placement history, as people from the care system we have a great deal in common. Our shared experiences form the basis of a shared culture-the culture of government care. We are exploring the culture of care through our community art project where people in and from care share their observations, insights, and lessons on postcards. This community art project is a Foster Care Alumni of America (FCAA) initiative. Youth In Care Canada has partnered with FCAA to grow this project throughout Canada.
Learn more about how you can submit postcards here. (coming soon)

Writers and Speakers Bureau
Youth In Care Canada offers opportunities for members to gain creative writing skills through writer bureaus. Writers have an opportunity to release their stories or articles to be published in our publications. To read a sample story click here.
Youth In Care Canada offers opportunities for members to gain public speaking skills through speaker bureaus. Once members have successfully attended a speakers bureau they may be asked, by Youth In Care Canada, to speak on the organizations behalf.

Multi-media Storytelling
Storytelling for people in and from care is an important element to healing; listening to these stories is a crucial step for change and increasing awareness. We are excited to announce that we have now incorporated technology into the story telling experience through NYICN Multi-media Storytelling Workshops.
Multi-media Storytelling, as taught through our workshop, supports youth and alumni from the Canadian child welfare system to delve deeply into their individual experience, in the context of a group production environment. We provide an intensive curriculum that supports participants to craft and record their personal story. We integrate creative writing, narration, and facilitative digital media manipulation for the purpose of still images, graphics, video clips and music.
The stories created during these workshops are powerful, authentic, and represent the common experiences of those from care while focusing on a resiliency theme.

Crafting Our Message
Our collective voice is crucial for change. Youth In Care Canada offers a workshop to teach groups of young people how to identify the issues in the system, craft their message, and deliver their message effectively to the appropriate audience.
